#UCLfantasy Captain Marvel: matchday two

With plenty of tempting captaincy options on offer in matchday two, we’ve put together a list of six players you should be considering for the armband in your Fantasy teams.

TUESDAY

Sergio Agüero (€10.5m) vs Hoffenheim (A)

Agüero – Manchester City’s top scorer in all competitions this season – struck in all four of his UEFA Champions League away games in 2017/18. The Argentinian was used as a substitute on matchday one as he was eased back into action after injury, but with more minutes now under his belt, he is primed for a more prominent role against a Hoffenheim side who have yet to keep a clean sheet in any competition this season.

Robert Lewandowski (€11.0m) vs Ajax (H)

Bayern have not lost a group stage match at home since 2013, and with Ajax visiting on matchday two, their attacking assets are at the forefront of our captaincy thinking. Chiefly Robert Lewandowski, who scored four of his five UEFA Champions League goals last season in Munich and found the net in the matchday one victory at Benfica.

Nabil Fekir (€8.5m) vs Shakhtar Donetsk (H)

A word of warning: monitor the Lyon team news as the forward was kept out of recent domestic action as a precautionary measure. Assuming he is fit, Fekir – at home to Shakhtar on matchday two – is a tempting differential captain choice. The Frenchman scored in the sensational matchday one victory against Manchester City.

WEDNESDAY

Neymar (€11.0m) vs Crvena zvezda (H)

Any one of Paris’ much-vaunted front three warrant serious consideration when they host Crvena zvezda, with Kylian Mbappé and Edinson Cavani also worthy contenders, but we would edge towards Neymar. The Brazilian may have scored one goal less than Cavani in last year’s UEFA Champions League campaign, but he registered more assists, so he’s the preferred choice in the French champions’ attacking triumvirate.

Lionel Messi (€11.5m) vs Tottenham (A)

The jewel in the Barcelona crown did not disappoint his Fantasy owners on matchday one with a hat-trick against PSV. Although the Catalans face a potentially difficult trip to Tottenham, Messi’s record against Premier League opposition simply has to be taken into account. With 20 UEFA Champions League goals against English clubs – more than against any other nation – history suggests the Argentinian could once again fill his boots.

Marco Reus (€9.0m) vs Monaco (H)

If your Tuesday captain doesn’t work out and you’re looking to think outside the box with your Wednesday choice, then Reus could be your man. Categorised as a midfielder in Fantasy, Reus was Dortmund’s most advanced player on matchday one and has been in good goalscoring form domestically this season. As have his team in general: while matchday two opponents Monaco are enduring a difficult campaign, Dortmund have scored 14 goals in their first three home matches of 2018/19.

Fantasy tip: Remember that if you switch your captain after Tuesday’s matches, you lose half that player’s points, so decide whether the change is worth the risk!
