In case you were under a rock this week, Apple announced a new iPad. The new iPad is exactly what it sounds like, a newer 9.7-inch iPad, but it now has Apple Pencil support and upgraded internals. However, even though it does have Apple Pencil support, that does not make it an iPad Pro.

That brings up a very fair question: How many different iPads are there anyway?

Apple has never aimed to make its iPad line-up clear. There’s the iPad, iPad Air, iPad Air 2, new iPad, 12.9-inch iPad Pro, 9.7-inch iPad Pro, 10.5-inch iPad Pro, iPad mini and iPad mini 4. It goes on and on in a stream of confusing similar names. So if you wonder exactly how many iPads there are, you are not alone.

The answer is actually quite simple: there are only four iPads being sold by Apple. Hard to imagine with all those different iPads Apple has announced over the years, but right now, Apple’s iPad line-up is the simplest it has been in a long time. Here are the four different iPads Apple sells.
